​​BWCB Second Wind is a fun and friendly wind band of currently over 40 players, including many of the founder members. Our Musical Director, ​Kevin Ransom, formed BWCB Second Wind in 2011.

 

We play entertaining music from toe-tapping light classics, popular film and show tunes to contemporary and older pop songs, aiming to play to the highest standard in a light-hearted, friendly atmosphere.​​​​

We play gigs throughout the year, from busking to formal concerts, and expect that members will play a full part in these performances. Venues include castles, bandstands and local events in and around Berkshire, along with occasional weekend tours (Kent and Normandy). In December we busk locally, often for our charity of the year, chosen by our members.​

 

Concerts are stand-alone or shared with friends such as St Sebastian’s Wokingham Band, Masterclef and Cantata Conviva. We are also very fortunate to be able to welcome professional musicians to play with us from time to time. Members of Second Wind vote each year on which charity to support, and raise money for the chosen charity through raffles at two formal concerts, and by busking in venues such as The Lexicon Bracknell, Dinton Pastures Activity Centre, and The Meadows.  This year’s charity is The Link Visiting Scheme Wokingham; past charities have included The Brain Tumour Charity and The Cowshed.​

 

There are no auditions but new members will feel more comfortable if they have competent sight-reading and technical skills. We also encourage players to constantly stretch their ability through sectionals and the ever-changing repertoire.

Rehearsals

We rehearse at 7:00pm - 9:00pm on Wednesday evening at Holne Grange School, Wokingham. Details of our rehearsals are here.

In 2025 we gave 5 concerts and 2024 we gave 7 concerts.
